Autodesk AEC Collection Review

The AEC Collection is simple to administer and use. Installation through the Autodesk.com portal is relatively simple especially when creating deployment files. I would, however, recommend that your software vendor has a deep knowledge base in their customer support.

Pros

All the software we require to model project is contained within a single package.

Cons

Would like to see an AEC Collection option to contain BIM 360 licensing combined rather than having to manage separate software licenses.

The Whole Package!!!

If you are able to, evaluate what products are going to be used by each user or user group and optimize how you package your deployments from there. This will help the IT team immensely when a new hire is brought on board so that they are operational right out of the gate instead of waiting for the installs to happen. Also, you want to make sure that the users have access to the updates on a regular basis so that they are in line with the other team members and using the same build of the software.

Pros

After being in the Reseller channel many years ago, the main thing that the AEC Collection Solves is having access to all platforms without a huge overhead. This is pivotal for those clients that execute every aspect of a project but maybe only need a certain software 5% of the time. Clients were more inclined to not utilize certain tools because their frequency of use did not match the cost that was associated. This allows them to confidently access many tools in their toolkit while optimizing overhead costs.

Cons

One of the downsides that I see to the AEC collection is that the Installations are still very large. This poses issues to those that are utilizing a number of the tools in the collection as it put a strain on the hardware requirements. Having more flexibility to virtualize the software and licenses would be beneficial.

Almost everything you need in one subscription

Provides a lot of licensing flexibility for less cost than 2 titles alone.

Pros

The collection gives us access to our most commonly used titles and having more seats than we might likely have if we purchased individually allows us to cross train designers to move from AutoCAD to revit or try out Infraworks

Cons

Some titles we could use are missing like a basic inventor for 3D content and I wish BIM360 was bundled with, or an option to save on BIM360 Design if we are AEC collection subscribers.

Comprehensive Suite of tools necessary for any Consulting Company in the Infrastructure Industry

Having all the tools that a large company can afford in one suite, permits a sole proprietor to compete.

Pros

One stop shop for all the applications needed to provide services to my clients.

Cons

Price point and interactivity between applications. Efforts should be made for a universal database that all apps pull from so changes from one are reflected in the others, thus reducing re-work and keeping on budget for clients. This will allow for more deliverables, in shorter time for the same money.

Value of AEC

The AEC collections gives admins the ability to pick and choose what software is installed on an end user's computer. This is able to save space on a computers computer and less of a performance degredation.

Pros

The AEC collections gives the best value for your buck.

When a company is about to purchase more than one software of the Autodesk's flagship programs it is better to use one of the collections

Cons

The addition of the collections in turn got rid of the software suites and packages.

This is a nightmare to manage as an administrator.

The autodesk deployment timelines have almost doubled with more attention needed.
